Quick Tip: Prevent Overeating

Hey! Here’s a quick tip I learned of a few years ago to prevent myself from overeating on chips, crackers, and other food that comes out of a bag.

Don’t eat out of the bag. It sounds simple but it really helps. I’ve noticed that when we eat chips directly from the bag we tend to eat more. Maybe it’s because we can’t conceive in our mind how much we’re eating until it’s already too late. I recommend placing your chips or crackers in a napkin, small plate, or plastic bag then eat. You can actually control how much you’re eating this time instead of mindlessly eating from the bag. You can even look at the nutrition label and place the serving size in your napkin so you know how many calories, how much sodium, or fat you’re consuming.

But It’s Hard

Don’t give up just because it’s hard or you don’t see an easy way out. During the time that you give up comes opportunity to press forward and grow. If we hang on long enough and keep going we will reap a harvest just like Galatians 6:9 says. “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”NLT

This applies to weight loss as well as life. Sometimes we just want to get to our end so bad and so fast that we unintentionally saboatoge our success. We try so hard to finish quick that we give up because we get impatient and say it’s not working, but the Word of God says not to give up on doing the good thing or right thing because if we keep going we will see the benefits and reap a harvest.

I saw this in my own life a few days ago; I was at the gym on the tread mill and I was trying to complete my mile. (I try to jog a mile each time I’m on the tread mill just because I know it’s good for me even though I may not like it. Jogging is something I could never do when I was younger because of my weight and fitness level, so just to be jogging on a regular basis is a huge accomplishment for me.)

While on the tread mill I said a prayer that I stick with it and complete it, but this time I let my thoughts get the best of me. As I was jogging I became impatient with my progress, I wanted to complete my mile as fast as I could because it was getting tougher to keep jogging. I wanted my journey to be over fast; I wanted to complete my mile and be done with it. Well I became so impatient that I ended up stopping before I completed the mile; the goal I set for myself in the beginning was to jog a mile without stopping. In the end I hurt myself because I became weary of doing the good thing and I sabotaged myself because of my impatience.

Sometimes this happens to us with our health, relationships, goals, dreams or anything else in life. We want to get to the end so quick, fast, and in a hurry that we become impatient during our journey that we forget to enjoy the ride and the things around us, and sometimes we even give up. Well don’t give up because you don’t see progress right away. I learned my lesson, and I pray this will help anyone else who reads.

The next time I was at the gym on the treadmill, which was yesterday, I said my same prayer but this time I had to make myself enjoy the jog. I told myself, as well as the Lord reminded me, “enjoy the jog and enjoy the music you listen to while on the jog.” I was going to complete my mile anyway, but I have to walk the journey out or jog it out (lol). This time I got into the music, enjoyed the jogging, and I completed the mile without stopping. Lesson learned! The next time you start to have thoughts that walking is not working, or eating right is not helping, and you might as well give up because nothing is going to change, stop them right there. If you don’t give up while doing the good thing: walking, running, dancing, eating right, giving up that piece of candy, etc…, then you will reap a harvest, see the benefits, and reach your goals. We will reach our goals, we just have to walk it out because it’s all a process and it takes time.

“3 P” Principle – Prayer

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” James 5:16 KJV

I’ve heard this scripture quoted many times, and I know many other people have too. What does it mean? Well, I’ve come to know that when I pray God hears and has prepared the answer and delivers it right when I need it.  I hardly hear people talk about praying about losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle. I mostly hear people pray, me included, for financial break through, healing in the body, restored relationships, prosperity in the home and job, etc… mostly the “big stuff”. I can remember being 15 years old on the eve of my 16th birthday kneeling down to pray. The one thing I remember asking God was to change me over night, get rid of all my weight without me having to lift a finger.  *I laugh at just typing this.*  Well of course I went to bed all excited and happy knowing that God was going to answer since my birthday was the next day and nothing is impossible for Him (Luke 1:37). But as we all know I was very disappointed the next morning. I woke up excited, on a school day, and ran to the bathroom mirror. I looked…and I was still the same. I was disappointed but that didn’t stop me from praying and calling out to God even more.

I think back to that time in life and it’s not that God didn’t hear my prayer or that He wasn’t planning on answering. I can’t explain why I didn’t lose weight sooner, I have been over weight since I was a child in elementary school and I’ve wanted to lose weight for the longest time. The journey didn’t actually manifest fully until my sophomore year in college, the spring semester at that. What I’m trying to say is that without God none of this would have happened, without prayer the door and opportunity would have never came about. Prayer is not a tool to make us right before God. Prayer is opening the door for God to work; it’s a key to unlock the door, it gives God access or approval to work on our behalf. Me praying all those years ago gave God access and approval to work on my behalf. It did manifest later in life but I could not have imagined doing all the things I will share with you at a young age. Things like going to the gym by myself, eating healthy, fasting, running on a tread mill and actually enjoying it, and so much more. God answered my prayers the first time I prayed, it just took some time (His time of course) for the answer to come to me.

  • Prayer strengthens you in those tough moments when you can no longer push yourself, God will do the pushing and the helping!
  • He shows what will help you lose weight, He’s the extra Friend you need when you’re by yourself and you are about to cheat on your diet/nutritious lifestyle meaning He’ll tell you “nope not this time”
  • Prayer changes things, gets things moving, causes yoke to be destroyed, faith to be increased and new found strength that you never thought you had. Even when it looks like your prayer hasn’t been heard, believe it’s already done

All three “P’s” are important but this is the “P” to get you started

Remember this nothing is impossible for God (Luke 1:37) and He is always ready to help you in your time of need (Psalms 46:1), just ask Him

He loves you so much!

I also want to mention that the only way you have access to God is through His Son Jesus Christ (John 14: 6) 🙂

He loves you and me very much and desires that you live life being confident, without low self-esteem, and love yourself – in the healthiest of way of course

Intro to “3 P” Principle

During this weight loss journey I was introduced to a principle that was really important to me and spoke to me throughout the time. I call it the “3 P” Principle.

This was the principle that started me off and got me through the tough times, the ups, downs and plateaus of my workout.

All three are very important; for my journey I couldn’t have started it without praying and letting God get into my situation, I couldn’t have continued on this journey without being persistent and I know I wouldn’t have seen results if I gave up, and I know that if I never was patient and stayed positive even when the scale didn’t move all of this would have backfired.

I will go in depth with each one but for getting started these three things will be so helpful.

Honestly I can also add consistency to the list; keep going to the gym and keep eating healthy. Consistency is a tool and resource to see change, the more consistent you are the more likely you will see results.

So, what if we fall? We may fall but like I said before it’s easier to get up if you don’t stay down for long. 🙂

“I’ll do it tomorrow” is just another excuse, why put off something that you can do today? 🙂

First of all, I wanted to thank you for viewing this page 🙂 I have many things to say and need time to get it all recorded.

If you have read my “Long Story Short” post, then you have a general idea of what this blog is about. The Lord inspired me during my weight loss journey, around 2013, to write tips and I even started drafting a power point with all my tips and things I have learned. I never completely finished it all but here I am now getting a blog together again by His inspiration to share this. It took many years to lose the weight and to change my mind set and I am still working on me. However, I want people to know that it is possible; it is possible to lose weight without getting surgery, getting on crash diets, and any other crazy thing we want to subject ourselves to love ourselves and feel good about ourselves.

I been through it and still go through it sometimes but I have made significant progress and you can too. I always saw weight loss stories and said “I wish that was me” because I didn’t want to put in the work to actually change my life. Now I say “if I can do it then you can do it too”; trust me I went through so many things trying to lose weight and wishing and dreaming that it would come to pass.  I thank God for all of the things He has helped me with; without Him this never would have happened. I did cry and pray for many years but He heard me the first time 🙂 and I know He wanted to help me do this because He’s the one who started it all.

Remember that it is possible to accomplish your goals and that with prayer, persistence, and patience you will have good success!!
